Description
Tregenna Castle Hotel is a large building located on elevated ground above St Ives, to the south of the town. It was constructed in 1774 for John Stephens, possibly designed by the architect John Wood the younger from Bath. The original east entrance facade features a two-storey square block with five windows, a plain doorway, a string course, an eaves cornice, a battlemented parapet, and large battlemented chimney stacks at the corners. There are two side wings, each one storey high with two and three windows, also topped with a battlemented parapet. The first addition to the building is a two-storey square block with four windows, designed in the same style and set back to the north. The last addition on the north facade is three storeys high with sixteen windows, continuing the main line of the first addition. The north facade now has a total of thirty-one windows, all of which are double-hung sashes with glazing bars. Only a small portion of the original interior remains. The building is constructed of granite ashlar.
