Description
Old Manor in Predeaux is a house that was used in the 19th century as stables or ancillary farm buildings before being converted back into a residence. It likely dates from the early 16th century, with modifications made for its use as farm buildings and further alterations in the 20th century. The structure is built from granite rubble with granite dressings and features large granite quoins. It has a slate roof with ridge coping tiles from the 20th century and gable ends, although the stacks have been removed.
The building has a three-room plan, with an entrance hall accessed from a porch. There is one room to the right and two to the left; the right room is heated by a rear lateral stack, while the left end room has doorways to the front and to the left side at an upper level, suggesting it may be a remnant of a larger house. The house is two storeys high, with the ground floor featuring three granite 3-light windows that have 3-centred arched lights, hollow-chamfered with recessed spandrels. The left end window has a central 4-centred arched light. The second bay from the left includes a 4-centred arched doorway, also hollow-chamfered with recessed spandrels.
A two-storey gabled porch has a 4-centred arched doorway with roll mouldings, hollow-chamfered, and a hood mould; the door may date from the 17th century and features strap hinges. Above the doorway is a similar 3-light window with a hood mould, and a limestone coat of arms of the Rashleigh family is set above in a recess with a hood mould. The building also has six 20th-century gabled dormers.
On the right side, there is a similar 3-light granite window on the ground floor, while the first floor has a large 20th-century window with a segmental head. The left side is built into the bank and features a 20th-century stair leading to a first-floor glazed door, likely added during its conversion to farm building use. The left end room was previously heated by a stack that has since been removed. At the rear, there is a 20th-century brick stack rising from the eaves on both sides, providing heat to the rooms adjacent to the porch entrance. The interior has been significantly altered in the late 20th century.
