Description
Trewalder Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around the 1860s. It is constructed of stone rubble with rusticated granite dressings and features a rag slate roof with hipped ends and a central valley. The building has stone rubble stacks with granite dressings, including axial stacks at the rear and an end stack on the rear left.
The farmhouse has a double depth plan with the entrance located on the east side. The reception rooms are arranged along the south side, facing the garden, while service rooms are situated in the rear west corner. Upon entering, there is a hall with a drawing room to the left (south) and a smaller room to the right (north). Behind the smaller room is a staircase, which is illuminated by a stair window on the north elevation, leading to a large kitchen beyond. At the rear of the drawing room, there is a small study with a living room beyond, both of which overlook the garden. A single-storey service range is located at the rear (west), and there is a cellar beneath the south garden front where the ground slopes down.
The east front elevation is two storeys high and features a symmetrical three-window front with rusticated granite dressings. It has a 19th-century four-panel door with a fanlight and 19th-century hornless sash windows with margin glazing bars. The south garden front is also symmetrical with three windows, showcasing complete fenestration of 19th-century hornless sashes with margin glazing bars and original glass.
Inside, the drawing room is complete with a moulded cornice, and the walls of the stair hall have incised lines that imitate ashlar masonry. The kitchen features a large 19th-century slate chimneypiece with gun racks above. The open string staircase has a mahogany rail and stick balusters, although some chimneypieces have been partly replaced. Trewalder Farmhouse is noted as a particularly good example of an unaltered farmhouse from the circa 1860s.
