Description

Vicarage Farmhouse is a building that dates from the late 16th century and was originally a vicarage, now functioning as a farmhouse. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and features a rag slate roof with gable ends and stone rubble end stacks. The layout consists of a two-room plan with a cross or through passage, heated by end stacks. There is a small turreted stair located at the rear of the left-hand room. The rear outshot has been remodelled in the 20th century.

The exterior is two storeys high with a regular three-window front. A central rendered 20th-century porch with a gable end and a part-glazed door provides access. To the left, there is a four-pane sash window and a very small one-light window, while to the right, there is another four-pane sash. On the first floor, there is a circa 19th-century nine-pane casement and two 16-pane sashes from the same period. The rear outshot has been remodelled in the 20th century, and there is also a 20th-century lean-to extension on the right-hand gable end.

Inside, there is a 20th-century fireplace in the left-hand room, and the ceiling beams were replaced in the 19th century. The stone turreted stair at the rear of the left-hand room has not been inspected, and the right-hand room and first floor are not accessible. The farmhouse is noted for being particularly unaltered and has an interesting history, as detailed by Sir John Maclean. Notably, a Norman font bowl, which is now located in the nearby Church of St Tetha, was found in the grounds of Vicarage Farmhouse.
