Description

Lecudden Farmhouse is an abandoned farmhouse that likely dates from the mid-17th century, with some alterations made around the 18th century and later changes. The building is constructed of slatestone rubble, some of which is rendered, and features a slate roof with ridge tiles. The roof is hipped on the left side and has a gable end on the right, with the right end being at a higher level and covered in corrugated iron. There is a rear lateral stack on the left, and it is believed that there was once a gable end stack on the right, which has since been removed.

The farmhouse has a two-room layout with a cross passage. The hall/kitchen is located on the left, heated by the rear lateral stack, and includes a circular stair tower at the back of the room. The parlour on the right was probably originally heated by a gable end stack. In the mid-18th century, the left end of the building was rebuilt with a hipped roof, and a small unheated room was created by partitioning off part of the space; this room was used as a dairy, accessible from the hall/kitchen.

The exterior of the farmhouse is two storeys high and was overgrown with ivy at the time of the survey in March 1987. There is a doorway leading to the passage, along with a window opening for the hall/kitchen and another for the dairy. The left end is rendered and features a small 20th-century addition. At the rear, the circular stair tower has a pitched slate roof that aligns with the main roof's pitch. The rear lateral stack includes a curved oven at its base, and there is a small single light window on the ground floor to the right.

The interior of the farmhouse was not fully accessible during the survey. The hall/kitchen has a slate floor and 19th-century ceiling beams, with a partially blocked fireplace. The stair tower features a stone newel stair with 19th-century treads. The room to the right has been divided by a wooden partition wall, and the dairy also has a slate floor and slate shelves.
