6/329 Carbeal Mill 19.11.86 GV II

Tide mill. Probably C18, with C19 and C20 alterations. Random slatestone rubble with corrugated asbestos roof with gable ends. The mill faces the sea, formerly with a mill pond on the landward side. There are no sluice arches remaining on the water side. 2 storeys, landward side has two 2-light windows at first floor with brick segmental heads. Lower 2-storey addition to left with C20 external stair to C20 door; single storey C20 addition to left end. Right end has C20 double doors. The water side has two 2-light windows with brick segmental heads at ground and first floor. Door and upper window in lower block to right. Interior Not inspected. The mill is used as a boat shed, and a quay has been built out on the water side. The mill was disused from about 1905, the lock gate was closed and mill pond filled in. (Sources: Thomas, C.
