Description
The drinking trough located to the south of Orchard House in Forrabury and Gunpool Lane is a structure dating from the mid to late 19th century, which incorporates materials from the 16th century, likely sourced from the demolished chapel of St. James. This large rectangular trough is made of granite and features a runnel on the left side. It is positioned next to a stream that provides a constant supply of water. Above the trough, there is a reset round granite chamfered arch. The chapel of St. James is believed to have been situated to the east, near the Mission Hall. A sketch of the ruined tower from 1846 by Sir John Maclean provides historical context for the site.
