Description
The Chapel at Erth Barton is a possibly late 13th century, two-storey building constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings. The first floor serves as the chapel, featuring a three-light traceried east window and single-light lateral windows. It has a 19th-century slate roof that maintains its original pitch. Inside, there is a rare arch to the east window and a piscina. There are also traces of medieval wall pointing, although it is now very mutilated, with only remnants of drapery and a decorative panel visible. Access to the chapel is at first floor level via a flight of stone steps that lead up from the entrance to the lower chamber, which functions as a cider house and still retains its presses. The lower chamber includes an additional door to the left and a partly blocked window that was formerly pointed, as well as a similar blocked window to the east that has pigeon holes.
