Description

The Duke of Leeds Public House, including the guide post, dates from the early to mid-19th century. It features a granite ashlar front, while the rest of the building is finished in painted render. The roof is hipped and covered with Delabole slate, showcasing wide eaves and a panelled plaster eaves soffit. Slender brick chimneys, partly rendered, rise from the side walls, and there are cast-iron ogee gutters. The building has a double depth plan with a shallow later outshut at the rear left.

The original symmetrical design includes two equal front rooms with a central cross passage leading to a staircase situated between two rear service rooms. The public house is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window facade facing the northeast road, with the left side facing a minor road at a crossroads. A plinth and mid-floor string course extend to the sides. The central doorway features an original six-panel door with an overlight. The original twelve-pane hornless sash windows are present, with louvred shutters on the front windows; however, the two ground floor sashes on the left wall have been replaced with horned versions.

A guide post from the early 20th century is located at the left corner of the building, featuring an adjustable column with "RELUBBUS" in relief on one pointer and "HAYLE" in relief on the other, both with painted pointing hinds in relief. The interior retains some original carpentry and joinery, including an open-string staircase with stick balusters and a mahogany handrail, as well as a moulded plaster ceiling band in the front left room. The right-hand rooms and the first floor have not been inspected.
