Description

The workshop premises of H. Hocking and Sons is an early to mid-19th century building located on Tower Hill in East Looe. It features rubble walls with timber lintels, some vertical boarding, and a rag slate roof. The building is situated on a corner site with a steep slope and has two storeys, presenting an irregular three-window range on the ground floor. The original workshop windows have vertical glazing bars with random panes, and there is one window on the first floor.

On the right side, a bay steps down as the ground floor extends over a basement, featuring a wide window with a boarded apron above the rubble basement, which has a doorway to the right with an old ledged door. The left end of the building has a central first-floor window and a chamfered lintel above a ledged door located to the right on the ground floor. The rear of the building is against a high bank and is accessed at the second-floor level through a wide doorway spanned by a chamfered oak lintel, leading to a pair of possibly reused ledged doors. The right end of the main block has a wide window on the second floor. The interior has not been inspected in detail, but it is noted to have a cobbled floor on the ground floor.
