Description
This cottage, located 90 meters southwest of Elm Cottage, is possibly from the 18th century. It is constructed from painted and rendered stone rubble and features a slate roof with gable ends. There is a stone rubble stack on the left gable end. The layout likely consists of two rooms with a cross passage, where the left room is heated and the right room is unheated. A small unheated room was probably added around the early 19th century on the right gable end. The cottage has two storeys and a regular two-window front, which includes a 19th-century three-over-six pane sash window on the left, a stable-type door, a two-light casement, and a single casement on the right. On the first floor, there are two possibly 19th-century two-light casements. The eaves appear to have been raised on the rear elevation. The interior is not accessible, but the cottage remains particularly unspoilt, with both the front and rear elevations unaltered. This area is noted for its connection to the writer and poet Thomas Hardy.
