Description
The Former Bible Christian (Boot) Chapel, built in 1835, is a small Non-conformist chapel located in Whitstone. It features cob walls with slate hanging on the road-facing side and a rag slate hipped roof with an outshut at the rear. The building has a rectangular plan and is single-storey, with a presumed gallery at the west end. The front has two windows, each with 12-pane 2-light casement windows set within round arches, topped by boarded tympana. The left side of the building serves as the entrance front, featuring a central doorway with a planked door and a gallery window with glazing bars on the first floor to the left. There is also a doorway leading to the outshut on the left. The interior has not been inspected but is unlikely to retain any fittings due to its use as an outbuilding. The chapel is accompanied by a slate stone rubble wall and square gate piers with rendered coping. This chapel is one of the first Bible Christian chapels and is of particular interest for its simple design and the vernacular use of materials.
