Pendeen Manor House Adjoining Wall To South East Of Pendeen Manor House

Pendeen Manor House, dating from the 16th century with alterations made in 1670, is a notable building constructed of wrought granite and stands two storeys tall. The front, dating from 1670, was originally nearly symmetrical with six windows, of which those on the left are mullioned. The right-hand portion is of a later date with windows of a different style. The ground floor windows feature dripmoulds that extend into the sides of a four-centred doorway, which also has a dripmould and a carved spandrel. The right-hand windows lack dripmoulds. A central angular arched buttress is adorned with a ball ornament and topped with a dated ornamental pedimented parapet. Uncommonly, the building has crenellated chimney stacks at both ends and in the center of the elevation. The gable ends are finished with scrolled corbels, and the other elevations display fine quality features, including gable ends, doorways, and stone mullioned windows. There is a picturesque court at the rear. Inside, the house contains interesting plasterwork and fireplaces. It is of exceptional interest as an example of Cornish architecture and is believed to be the birthplace of Dr. Borlase, the eminent Cornish antiquary, in 1695. The adjoining garden wall to the southeast is made of granite rubble, varying in height from approximately 4 feet to 15 feet, with some parts featuring granite coping.
