Description
MAWGAN-IN-PYDAR ST MAWGAN SW 86 NE 1/76 Stable about 10 metres north of the - Old Rectory GV II
Stable to the Old Rectory (q.v.), now house. Circa 1858, by William Butterfield; C20 alterations. Slatestone rubble. Slate roof with ridge tiles and gable end to rear, half-hipped to front. Axial stack with stone shaft. Plan: L-plan stable, with a coach house in the front and a short wing to rear right. The rear room is heated from an axial stack. Exterior: Single storey with loft. The front end has wooden boarding replacing the original coach door, with buttress to right and left and C20 window above. The left side has a gable end to left; 2 narrow C20 windows at ground floor in original apertures in the main range, one C20 window with 2-centred relieving arch at upper level in the gable. The right side has large C20 window to left and C20 conservatory set in the angle to the rear wing. Right end has C20 window with 2-centred arch. The rear has a porch with plank door and three C20 windows to right. Interior: Not inspected. Although details have been altered, the form of the building remains the same, and it is placed at an angle to the Rectory, forming an asymmetrical group.
