Description

SW 83 NW MYLOR MYLOR CHURCHTOWN

4/242 Holy well of Saint Mylor at approx 50m north of Church of Saint Mylor

GV II

Holy well. Medieval origins, but present structure is probably C19. Shale rubble walling enclosing on 3 sides a natural spring built into a bank at the rear, square doorway to front (east) and large slate slab over. Some medieval fragments of dressed stone lie near the doorway. Important historically, for the existance of a spring of good water, may have determined the choice of site for the church and a settlement around it.
