Description

MANACCAN SW 7525 7/55 Piggery at approx 20m east of - Kestle Barton Farmhouse and Kestle Cottage GV II

Piggery with swill kitchen and walls around yard. Circa mid-late C19. Shale rubble walls with dressed granite threshholds, jambstones and lintels. Hipped mostly scantle slate roofs and brick chimney over swill kitchen. L-shaped plan with the kitchen forming the angle and range of pig pens with rear feeding passages in either arm of the L. Single storey. South and east fronts. South front has from left: single doorway and 2 pairs of doorways, the right had one of each pair blocked, the others with ledged doors with strap hinges on pintails fixed to the jambstones. East front with similar details but with wide doorway left, pair of doorways, middle, and doorway right. Rear of west range has doorway to kitchen, far left and louvred window to middle of feeding passage wall right. Interior is complete with large fireplace with granite lintel in kitchen, slate pen partitions and original roof structure. Rubble yard wall adjoins ends of L enclosing rectangular exercise area. A complete planned C19 piggery and an important part of a group of C18 and C19 farm buildings relating to a circa C16-C17 farmhouse.
