Description
The farm buildings immediately southwest of Trendrine Cottage consist of a bank barn and a planned group of dairy buildings, shippons, fodder houses, and a cartshed stable arranged around a courtyard. The barn dates from the early 19th century, while the other structures are from the late 19th century. They are constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings and mostly feature scantle slate roofs, although some have been replaced with corrugated iron. The buildings have gable ends, and the courtyard is square-shaped with ranges of shippons on the north, south, and west sides. The entrance gateway is located between the stables on the east side.
In the southeast corner of the courtyard is a dairy, while the right-hand corner contains a cartshed. The rear corners house fodder houses, which have side outer doorways designed for sliding doors. An older bank barn is attached at right angles to the middle of the south side, with its left end built into the bank and loading doorways located in the middle of each end. There are also opposing first-floor winnowing doorways on the right side, and a blocked doorway on the first floor at the rear left, which previously provided access to a horse whim plat that still exists behind.
The exterior of the buildings remains largely unaltered, with the barn being two storeys high while the other structures are single storey. The shippon elevations facing the courtyard are symmetrical, featuring central windows and doorways on either side, as well as windows at the far left and right. Many original or old doors and windows are still present. The interior is nearly complete, retaining most of the original fittings, including the standings in the shippons. This group of buildings is part of an unspoiled coastal hamlet set within the ancient field system of this area of Cornwall.
