Description

Conce Farmhouse is a late 17th or early 18th century farmhouse, with a stable attached to the left dating from the later 18th century. The front of the house was altered in the mid-19th century, and an outshut was added to the rear right. The house is constructed of painted stone rubble, with a slurried slate roof, ridge tiles, and gable ends. Large projecting gable end stacks have recessed tops and slate weathering.

The original plan comprised two rooms with a central entrance, leading to a passage with a lower end room to the left and an upper end room to the right. An integral outshut was originally located to the rear of the lower end room, with a stair tower to the rear of the passage. In the mid-19th century, the passage was altered so the main entrance now opens directly into the lower end room to the left, in which a straight staircase was built into the integral outshut. The original staircase was removed from the stair tower, and a further outshut was added to the rear of the upper end. The two main rooms are heated by the gable end stacks, while the outshuts are unheated. The attached stable to the left has an entrance to the ground floor to the rear and left side.

The front of the house presents a symmetrical three-window facade, with two storeys. It has four-pane sashes set under the eaves, a central porch with a pitched roof, a plain door with a glazed panel, and a four-pane sash window to the right and left. External stacks are located on each gable end. The rear elevation includes the integral outshut behind the lower end room, with two single-light windows under the eaves and two single-light windows at ground floor, all with slate sills. A mid-20th century glazed porch covers a rear door. To the left, behind the upper end, is a lower single-storey outshut with a straight joint to the right, featuring a single light window to the rear. An outhouse connects the house to the stable to the left of the front. This outhouse has a half-hipped roof with ridge tiles, a door with a window inserted at ground floor, and two windows under the eaves (blocked to the right). The rear of the connecting outhouse has a 20th-century door, while the stable has a door to the left and a loading door under the eaves to the right.

Inside, the upper end room to the right has chamfered and straight-cut stopped cross beams with run-out stops, and a 20th-century fireplace at the gable end. The room to the left has 19th-century cross beams and a 19th-century mantel to the fireplace with corbels; it formerly had a larger fireplace. The stair tower contains a single light window at upper level, with a wall-plate above featuring flower and leaf carving.
