Description
St Piran's Well is a holy wellhouse and hand pump located in Tintagel, with possible medieval origins, though it was partly rebuilt in the late 19th century or early 20th century. The structure features slate stone rubble walls and a pyramidal roof, topped with a granite cap and an iron cross. It has a roughly square shape and is built into the side of a slope, likely over a field spring. The front elevation has a low opening that has been altered, featuring a slate lintel and an outer segmental arch with an iron gate. The spring water is piped into a rectangular basin within the wellhouse before flowing into the stream below. There is a circa 19th-century iron hand pump located on the higher (south) side of the wellhouse at the rear. The dedication of the well is uncertain, but it is situated near the converted mission church of St Piran.
