Description
There are two headstones located approximately 43 meters east of All Hallows Church of Saint Kea. Both headstones date from 1827. The northern stone commemorates John Rowling and was crafted by W. Pearce of Truro. It is an inscribed slate monolith with a shaped head, featuring cavetto and torus moulded corners, and a two-centred equilateral arched head. The inscription notes that John Rowling died in 1827 at the age of 1729.
The southern stone is dedicated to Ann, the daughter of William and Mary Ann Bray, who died on January 6, 1827, at the age of 8 years and 4 months. This stone also has a shaped head, with concave corners and a segmental arched head.
The current church, built in 1896, replaced an earlier church from 1802 designed by James Wyatt, and the churchyard has been in use since then. Very few tomb monuments survive from the earlier church at Old Kea, making these early 19th-century churchyard monuments historically significant for the parish, despite their modest architectural style.
