Description
There are two tombchests located 18 meters north of the Church of St Michael in Lesnewth. The first tombchest dates from 1715 and commemorates Thomas Pearse of Holwell, who died in that year, as well as his wife Mary, the daughter of Degory Bettenson of Griles, who died in 1693. It also honors their son Richard, who died in 1720, and their daughter Joan, who died in 1740. This chest is made of slate stone rubble and features a slate lid, with inscriptions in fine quality upper and lower case lettering.
The second tombchest belongs to Thomas Pearse of Holwill in Davidstow, a gentleman who died in 1789. This inscription also commemorates Mary Pearse, who died in 1753, and Hender Pearse, who died in 1762, both of whom are buried nearby. Like the first, this chest is constructed from slate stone rubble and has a slate lid.
