Description

Forge Cottage and the adjoining house, along with a cartshed, date from the early 19th century. They are constructed of painted stone rubble with granite lintels on the ground floor and cob with wooden lintels above. The buildings feature a grouted scantle slate roof that is hipped on the right, with brick chimneys on the left gable end and partly on the wall. The gutters are made of cast iron and have an ogee shape.

Each house has a two-room layout with a central cross passage leading to the stairs. There is a small lean-to at the back of the left-hand house, while the right-hand house shares a party wall with another house at a right angle. The single-storey rubble cartshed is attached to the left gable end. The west front has a total of four windows, with each house displaying a nearly symmetrical two-window arrangement and a nearly central doorway, featuring 20th-century doors. The original 16-pane hornless sash windows remain, except for an old horned copy on the ground floor of the left house. At the rear, there is an old two-light casement window with horizontal wooden glazing bars and some leaded panes. The interiors have not been inspected. It is uncommon in Cornwall to find two adjoining houses that are both so unaltered.
