Description

Barrimaylor Farmhouse and the garden walls to the front date from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of serpentine rubble with dressed granite used for the quoins, sills, jambstones, and keystones that support shallow brick arches. It features a slurried scantle slate roof with brick chimneys at the gable ends and cast iron ogee gutters. The farmhouse has a double depth plan, consisting of two rooms wide, likely with a larger kitchen living room on the left and a parlour on the right, connected by a nearly central cross passage that leads to a central stair between two rear service rooms. It is two storeys high with a nearly symmetrical three-window south front. The windows are grouped slightly towards the right, with the doorway located left of the middle of the fenestration. The door, which dates from the early 20th century, is top-glazed, and the original openings contain horned sash windows. At the rear, there are several original hornless small paned sashes. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to be little altered since the 20th century. Surrounding the rectangular garden at the front are serpentine rubble walls, with an entrance gate in the middle of the lower front wall, featuring dressed granite monolith piers and copings. Aside from some window replacements, the house remains largely unchanged since it was built, with the rear being more complete than the front.
