STOKE CLIMSLAND LUCKETT SX 37 SE 8/166 Row of arsenic calciners - approx 250 m south-west of Clematis and Penleat Cottages

GV II

Row of arsenic calciners, now disused. Late C19. Roughly coursed slate-stone with granite quoins and red brick segmental arches. 2 rows approximately 90 m in length forming 7 calciners in all, open to top. Front revetment wall with sloping buttresses survives to east end. The calciners were used for the roasting of arsenic ore and the expulsion of gases. Associated with the Luckett Mines in operation in late C19 (A. K Hamilton Jenkin, Mines and Miners of Cornwall, Vol XV, Calstock, Callington and Launceston (1976), p.34.)
