Description
West Draynes Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse with some 19th-century alterations and a few later changes. It is constructed of granite rubble, with some areas slate-hung, and features a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. The gable end stacks have rubble shafts, a cornice, and a shaped top. The building has a two-room plan, with a central entrance and a room on each side, both heated by gable end stacks. There is a rear outshut for the kitchen and dairy, as well as a small lean-to at the right end.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front, with a ground floor string course. The first floor features three 2-light 8-pane casements with L hinges. The ground floor includes a central porch with a hipped roof, likely a 19th-century addition, and a plain door to the side. There are 3-light casements on either side of the porch. The right side has an external stack that is slate-hung at the upper level, along with a single-storey rubble lean-to. The rest of the building and its interior were not accessible during the survey in November 1968.
