Threshing Barn And Horse Engine House 12 Metres To East Of Radford Farmhouse

The threshing barn, dating from around the 17th century, is located 12 meters east of Radford Farmhouse. It is built from dressed stone, stone rubble, and cob. The left end wall was rebuilt in the 20th century and has been rendered. The roof is made of corrugated asbestos with gable ends. The barn has an overall rectangular shape with wide opposing doors. An additional horse-engine house was added to the rear in the early 19th century.

The exterior features a single-storey barn constructed with fine masonry, including bands of slate lacing courses and local dressed stone rubble, with a band of cob below the eaves. There is a coeval open-fronted stone rubble porch with a rag slate lean-to roof and a wide entrance that includes an inner moulded doorframe, likely from the 18th or 19th century. A row of pigeon holes is present below the eaves. At the rear, the single-storey horse-engine house has a curved end and a semi-conical roof.

Inside, the barn retains a roof from the 17th century, featuring morticed and flush halved, lap-jointed, and pegged apices. The collars are partly halved, lap-jointed, and pegged onto the face of the principals.
