Description
Zimapan House is a villa, originally a mine office, dating to the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of stucco with hipped roofs covered in Delabole slate, featuring wide eaves to the front (south) and a lean-to extension at the rear wing (north). Brick chimneys are located on the rear wall and the east side wall of the wing.
The house has a T-shaped design. The single-story front section (south) contains a large main room to the left (west), a wide entrance hall, and three smaller rooms to the right. A two-story service wing extends from the rear (north) of the entrance hall, with parts of it under the same roof level. The east-facing front has five windows, fitted with original 12-pane hornless sash windows. A wide, flat-roofed entrance porch is situated between the second and third windows from the left. This porch has an original six-panel door with an overlight, flanked by tall, narrow sidelights between pilaster-like posts and further windows with glazing bars on the sides. The porch is topped with a fascia featuring a moulded cornice.
The interior has undergone little alteration, retaining original doors, architraves, and plaster ceilings with moulded cornices throughout the front rooms. The main room features a decorative trailing vine band, while the three rooms have egg and dart detailing. Some fireplace surrounds with consoles remain.
