Description

Hope Cottage is a house likely dating from the early 18th century, with alterations and additions made in the 20th century. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble, with a thatched roof featuring gable ends. The house has gable end stacks; one is rendered and the other is brick.

The original plan follows a central entrance leading to two rooms of almost equal size, each heated by a gable end stack. The kitchen is on the right and the parlour on the left. A single-storey, unheated outshut is incorporated into the rear of the house, alongside a small, single-storey 20th-century addition to the rear left.

The two-storey front is nearly symmetrical, featuring two windows on each side. The ground and first floors on the right and left have 20th-century two-light casement windows. A thatched, hipped porch with a 20th-century half-glazed door is centrally positioned. The right end of the house is blank, with a large external stack that includes a curved oven at its base. The outshut has a 20th-century window on the right. The rear features the integral outshut with a 20th-century window to the left, and a single-storey 20th-century addition attached to the right, containing a window and door. The interior is not accessible.
