Description

Number 35 is an attached house that has been converted into an office. It likely dates from the late 17th century, with a hopper dated 1711, 18th century window features, and an early 19th century shop front. The building may be timber-framed and is rendered, although the roof is not visible. It has a double-depth plan, with three storeys and a basement, and features a three-window range. The first floor juts out, and there is a moulded timber string course at the second floor, along with a timber modillion eaves cornice.

Curtailed Pennant steps lead up to a right-hand doorway, which has a wide, low four-panel door and a ten-pane overlight. The shop front is notable, featuring strips with a Greek key design between three 20-pane windows, a cornice, and a segmental-arched central basement entrance with double doors. The building has flush, moulded surrounds for the 6/6-pane sashes, which are smaller on the second floor beneath the eaves. To the right, there is a fine cast lead hopper adorned with a winged cupid and the letters GGI/SI, dated 1711.

Internally, the building was largely rebuilt in the mid-20th century. An ovolo-moulded beam with a chamfer stop extends across the front ground floor and above the recessed doorway. The property also features attached wrought-iron barleysugar railings with a brass rail leading to the steps.
