Description

This is a former engine house dating to around 1840, originally built for the Bristol and Clifton Oil Gas Company. It is constructed of squared coursed Pennant rubble with rubble dressings, and incorporates a brick chimney. The building follows a rectangular plan and is single-storied, with a five-window front. The roof has been lost. Architectural features include semicircular arched openings, a large central doorway, a narrower doorway at the left end, round gable windows, and a square brick chimney on the south side. The interior was not inspected and the building was derelict at the time of the original survey. The engine house formed an extension to the Bristol and Clifton Oil Gas Company’s site of 1840 and is part of the Canon's Marsh area.
