Description
The Great Western Dry Dock, located on Gasferry Road in Bristol, is a dry dock built in 1839. It is constructed from pennant rubble and brick, featuring a bow-ended shape with a brick base and a curved entrance section. The dock has stepped sides and is equipped with a single-leaf iron caisson dock gate. This dry dock is historically significant as it was built for the construction of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's SS Great Britain, which was launched from this dock in 1843.
