Description

This is a terrace of three houses located on Cumberland Road, in Bristol’s Floating Harbour, dating to around 1840. The houses are constructed of stucco with limestone dressings, feature party wall stacks, and have a hidden roof. They are arranged with a double-depth plan and are built in a late Georgian style.

Each house is three storeys high with a basement, and has a two-window frontage. The terrace was originally designed as a symmetrical group, with a pedimented central section and parapeted wings; however, the left-hand wing was never built. The façade is divided into rectangular panels by pilaster strips, a ground floor plat band, and a frieze below the cornice. The right-hand doorways have decorative surrounds with oval reeded panels, small canopies, and six-panel doors with glazed upper panels. The windows are plain with 6/6-pane horns on the lower floors and 3/6-panes on the second floor.

The interior includes an entrance hall leading to a dogleg staircase with stick balusters and column newels, along with six-panel doors throughout. Number 81 was initially listed separately on March 4, 1977.
