Description

The Powder Houses and Jetty in Shirehampton, Bristol, are a Grade II listed structure originally built for the storage of gunpowder. The jetty has been in existence since at least 1777. It features two sheds, with the first being a rectangular building made of rubble and topped with a pantiled roof, while the second is a square rubble structure with a hipped slate roof, likely dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. Additionally, there is a small building on the jetty that contains a hand crane. These structures were constructed to store gunpowder, which could not be kept in Bristol Docks, with the earlier shed serving as the powder house.
