Description
The piers and gates at the main entrance to Redland Court in Bristol were built in 1735 by John Strachan, with ironwork by Nathaniel Arthur. They are constructed from limestone ashlar, coursed squared Lias rubble, and wrought iron. The tall square piers feature coupled Doric pilasters with frosted blocks, an entablature, and a decorative urn on top. A fine wrought-iron screen is divided into three sections, with a central opening and an overthrow arch that contains a cartouche. There are quadrant rubble walls on either side. Nathaniel Arthur also created the gates for the nearby Redland Chapel.
