Description
This is an attached house located at 1 Albermarle Row, built in 1812 according to the deeds. It is constructed of brick with limestone dressings, featuring a party wall stack and a pantile mansard roof. The house originally had a single-depth plan but has since been extended at the back. It is designed in the late Georgian style and consists of three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with one window range. The left side has brick quoins and a moulded coping on the parapet.
The right-hand semicircular-arched doorway includes keys and imposts, a plate-glass fanlight with a lantern, and a six-panel door. The ground floor has rubbed brick flat arches with stone keys above 8/8-pane sashes, while the second floor features 4/4-pane sashes. There is a wide relieving arch over a first-floor canted oriel that has 8/8-pane sashes and flanking 4/4-pane sashes, adorned with a reeded architrave and roundels. A small raking dormer with casements is present on the roof.
Inside, the entrance hall is divided by a plain semicircular arch, leading to a rear lateral dogleg winder stair that has an uncut string, stick balusters, column newels, and a ramped rail, with a winder stair to the attic. There are small rooms between the stair and the party wall, and the six-panel doors feature reeded architraves. The rear yard is flagged and is now partly enclosed.
Additionally, there are attached wrought-iron railings in front of the basement area. This building was originally constructed as a lodging house for the Hotwells spa.
