Description
The property comprises a pair of attached houses, dating to around 1850 and possibly designed by Charles Underwood. Constructed from limestone ashlar, with party wall stacks and a concrete tile hipped roof, the houses are in a Neoclassical style. Each house is two storeys, with an attic and basement, and has a two-window range. The symmetrical front features shallow wings with paired giant corner and central pilasters extending to a frieze incorporating triglyphs and a cornice, spanning the pilaster pairs. A parapet with paired pilasters leads to a moulded coping and shallow pediments over the corners. The entrances on the end returns have shallow Ionic porches with entablatures framing two-leaf, half-glazed doors and overlights; the overlight to No.1 includes a lantern and margin panes. Above the entrances is a single window, and oval first-floor panels are positioned on each side. Architraves with floating cornices are present on the ground floor, and the windows are mostly six-over-six pane sashes, smaller on the first floor, and plate-glass to No.2. Blind attic panels are on the wings, and casements feature between the windows.
Inside, there is a glazed screen door. The central stair hall has panelled wainscot and an open-well stair with cast-iron balusters and a curtail. Panelled reveals are associated with eight-panel doors, and panelled shutters are present, with cornices incorporating anthemia.
The property also includes attached front garden cast-iron gates and railings.
