Description

A terrace of five houses at numbers 54-62 Stokes Croft, built around 1840. The buildings are constructed of limestone ashlar with slate mansard roofs and follow a double-depth plan. They represent a late Georgian style. Each house is two storeys high with an attic, and each has a two-window frontage. The terrace presents a unified appearance; numbers 60 and 62 have restored late 19th-century shop fronts, while the others have 20th-century replacements. The original six-panel doors with plate-glass overlights are located on the left side, with shop entrances to the right, all below fascia boards and consoles. The terrace is articulated above by shallow pilaster recesses to the party walls, each with a dentil cornice and a small pediment. These recesses frame two recessed panels containing 6/6-pane sash windows. The interiors have not been inspected.
