Description

A terrace of eight houses located on Fremantle Road in Cotham, Bristol, built around 1840. The houses are constructed of stucco with limestone dressings, featuring party wall stacks and a hidden roof. They follow a double-depth plan and are built in a late Georgian style, each house spanning three storeys and a basement, with a one-window range.

The terrace presents a uniform appearance, defined by pilasters extending to a cornice and parapet. Steps lead to raised areas above the projecting basements, which are sheltered by a continuous, full-width tented verandah supported by wrought-iron stanchions and railings. The right-hand doorways have rectangular overlights with decorative glazing bars, each paired with a six-panel door. Windows are primarily 2/2 and 3/3-pane sashes.

Inside, the entrance hall is distinguished by a semicircular archway, a dogleg staircase with stick balusters and column newels, built-in dressers in the front basement, marble fireplaces, panelled shutters, and six-panel doors. The terrace is architecturally similar to the terrace at numbers 37-65 Fremantle Road.
