Gwyer Family Obelisk Pink granite obelisk on base, surrounded by cast iron railings. The tall obelisk, on a stepped base, has inscriptions in sunken capitals on its sides. The railings are of exceptional elaborateness, having baluster shafts and anthemion finials to the rails; the corner posts have Grecian foliate spearheads. HISTORY: the earliest death commemorated here was that of Matthew Wright Gwyer, who drowned off St. Vincent in the West Indies in 1842. Listed for its railings and imposing obelisk.
