Description

A pair of attached houses dating to around 1850, located on Pembroke Road in Clifton, Bristol. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar, with a shared party wall and substantial lateral stacks. They are built to a double-depth plan and represent a Neoclassical style.

The facades are articulated by clasping and party wall giant pilasters extending to a frieze, cornice, and parapet. A prominent, banded plat band runs around the ground floor. Single-storey porches are positioned on either side, featuring pilasters supporting an entablature, and contain recessed double doors with three panels each, and overlights. Doors are framed by architraves, and windows have moulded cills. First-floor cornices are present, and bracketed stone balconies with moulded cast-iron railings provide access to 6/6-pane sash windows. Smaller sash windows are located on the second floor.

The sides of the building incorporate pilasters flanking central stair lights, while paired pilasters on the porches frame sashes with interlacing heads. The interior of the houses was not inspected during the listing process.
