Description
A pair of attached houses of around 1845, located on Oakfield Road in Clifton, Bristol. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar with party wall stacks and a slate hipped roof. They are built on a double-depth plan and exhibit a loose Italianate style.
Each house is three storeys high with a basement and attic, featuring a two-window front. The facade is composed, with the central section projecting forward, supported by brackets for the attic. The ground floor is banded and articulated by giant channelled pilasters rising to volute capitals, topped by an entablature, cornice, and parapet. Single-storey side entrance porches have pilasters supporting an entablature, and contain double doors consisting of three panels. The windows are tripartite, with architraves and moulded cills. The first floor has stone balconies, with a six-pane sash flanked by two-pane sashes. The second floor has smaller windows with a four-pane sash flanked by two-pane sashes. The attic windows are three-pane sashes set in shallow recesses. Semicircular-arched stair lights are present on the sides of the buildings.
The interior, which has not been inspected, is noted to include side dogleg staircases, panelled doors and shutters, and cornices.
