Description

This is a terrace of thirteen houses, numbered 16 to 38 Southleigh Road, Clifton, Bristol, and including number 32 Oakfield Road. The houses were built in the late Georgian style with Greek Revival decorative elements, likely in the late 18th century or early 19th century. They are constructed of limestone ashlar, with party wall stacks and slate and pantile coverings for the mansard roof. Each house has a double-depth plan, three storeys plus a basement and attic, and a single-window range.

The terrace is stepped, featuring a banded ground floor. Above this, pilasters are accented with incised palmette decoration to a frieze, cornice, and parapet. The coped party walls extend upwards. The recessed doorways are flanked by overlights with margin panes and feature six-panel doors. The six-over-six sash windows have architraves, with larger windows on the first floor, which also has bracketed slate balconies with various cast-iron railings. Dormers are present in the roof. One house has a two-window range, while the right return displays a later, deep ashlar porch with a pitched, glazed roof, pilasters, banded gable, and a plain door surround. This porch includes a six-panel door, side windows with margin panes, and a left-hand canted bay with a hipped roof.

The interior features an entrance hall with a semicircular arch, a central dogleg winder stair with stick balusters, cupboards between the stairs and party wall, six-panel doors, and panelled shutters.
