Description
Numbers 1 to 17 Oakfield Place is a terrace of 17 houses built in 1852 by Thomas Pennington. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar, with party wall stacks and a hidden roof. They are designed with a double-depth plan and represent a late Georgian style with Greek Revival detailing. Each house is three storeys high with a basement, and features a single-window range. The facades are articulated by pilasters extending to a frieze, cornice, and parapet. Each house has a recessed doorway with an overlight and a six-panel door. Architraves with floating cornices are present on the first floor, alongside bracketed slate balconies and cast-iron railings. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, featuring a 3/3-pane configuration on the second floor. The right-hand return is symmetrical with a three-window range, a recessed doorway, a ground-floor band and clasping pilasters. The left-hand end has a similar design, featuring a recessed semicircular arch over a central doorway, a semicircular-arched window above, and a canted oriel to the right with 4/4-pane horned sashes. The interior includes a hall with a semicircular arch leading to a central dogleg winder staircase, stick balusters, a curtail, and a cast-iron newel. A cupboard is situated between the staircase and the party wall. Other interior features comprise cornices with palmettes, six-panel doors, shutters, and rear canted bays. The property includes spear-headed front area railings.
