Description
Blaise Hamlet's Circular Cottage is a Grade I listed building constructed in 1812 by John Nash and George Repton for J.S. Harford. This cottage features random rubble walls, brick gable stacks, and a thatched hipped roof, showcasing a picturesque style. It has a single-depth plan and is a single-storey building with an attic, consisting of a one-window range. The cottage has a bow-ended shape with a pent roof on brackets extending around three sides, leading to a left-hand gabled open porch that houses a plank door and a front bench. The windows include paired lattice casements on the sides and front, along with half-dormers on the left and front. There are also paired diagonally-set rear stacks. A 20th-century tiled extension has been added to the rear. Although the interior was not inspected, it is reported to include a winder stair flight, a sitting room, and a pantry. This cottage was arranged by Harford for his retired employees and is part of a unique layout that is noted for its picturesque design. The cottages are situated around an open green and were modernised around 1975.
