Description
The Rectory, built in 1786 and extended in the early 19th century by one bay to the left, is located at St James's Close in Poole. This building features header bond brickwork on the front, with stone and stucco dressings, banded gable stacks, and a pantile roof, showcasing a Mid Georgian style. It has a double-depth plan, standing two storeys high with an attic and basement, comprising a five-window range along with a lower one-window range on the left. The double-fronted design includes a brick cornice and parapet, a timber doorcase leading to a round-arched doorway adorned with roundels and an open pediment, a fanlight, and a six-panel door. The windows are fitted with keyed cambered lintels and 6/6-pane sashes, with two 20th-century dormers and two basement lights featuring cambered heads. The slightly set-back 19th-century side range has similar glazing. Inside, the rectory reportedly includes a central rear open-well stair, some panelling in the hall, and a good fireplace with acanthus carving. The property also has an attached brick wall with iron railings and stone coping that extends approximately 20 meters to the front garden.
