Description
Brookdale is a house originally built in the 17th century and extended in the mid-19th century. It features painted brick, with some reports of cob, brick gable stacks, and a slate roof. The building has a single-depth plan, with a lower two-room 17th-century range on the left side of the mid-19th-century block, and two rear wings from the 19th century. It stands two storeys high and has a two-over-two window arrangement. The double-fronted left section includes a doorway with a hipped trellis porch and paired windows on the ground floor. The taller southeast range from the 19th century has a right-hand hipped roof and a French window, with plate-glass sashes. The rear features two mid-19th-century outer wings with projecting verges. The northwest entrance gable has a ground-floor cornice and a blind, keyed oculus in the gable, along with round-arched windows and a central door beneath a plain Venetian window, all with plate-glass sashes. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the house has been owned by the Waterman family since 1848, who were involved in the Newfoundland trade.
