Description
The Hop Pole Public House, part of Albion Buildings Nos. 8 and 9, is a 18th-century building located on Upper Bristol Road. The exterior features ashlar fronting with three storeys. No. 8 has a fluted frieze and a cavetto cornice above the parapet, while No. 9, known as the Hop Pole, has a plain cornice and aluminium replacement windows on the first floor. The Hop Pole has been enlarged on the right side with a mid-19th century extension that has a double pitch roof. The interior of No. 8 was not inspected, but the interior of the Hop Pole public house has been significantly altered and is mostly modern. The front wall of No. 8 includes gate piers made of rusticated masonry. These buildings represent the westernmost limit of Bath's 18th-century expansion.
