Description
No. 3 Burlington Place is a house that has been converted into flats. It dates from the late 18th century and has some alterations from the 19th century. The front is made of limestone ashlar, while the right side and rear are constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble. The building features a double pile parapeted mansard roof, covered with Welsh slate on the front and lower slope of the rear, and concrete tiles on the upper slope. The roof has a coped party wall to the left and a coped gable wall to the right, both with two ashlar stacks.
The layout of Burlington Place, which includes No. 2 Gloucester Street, creates a nearly symmetrical appearance with three bay pavilions that project forward from two recessed central bays. No. 3 consists of two bays to the right of the right pavilion, with a staircase at the front.
The exterior has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a two-window front. The first floor features two plate glass sash windows, the left one having horns, set in plain reveals with splayed jambs and lowered stone sills. On the ground floor, there is a plate glass sash window on the right in a plain reveal with splayed jambs and a stone sill, and on the left, a 19th-century six-panel door with a glazed top panel, framed by a pedimented Doric doorcase. The basement has two openings in the plinth, likely with six-over-six sash windows, and openings in the pavement. A double dormer with plate glass horned sashes is present. The building has a plinth, a band course over the ground floor, a bracketed eaves cornice, and a coped parapet. The right side has plate glass and two-over-two sash windows on the second floor and attic. The rear elevation has three grouped sashes on each floor, now two-over-two and plate glass, with the second floor on the left being blind and the ground floor on the right being blocked. There is a small ashlar extension on the ground floor. The interior has not been inspected.
