Raby Villa And Attached Garden Wall

Raby Villa is a house dating to around 1830, with later additions. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a double-pitched slate roof, featuring moulded stacks to the coped gable ends. The house has a double-depth plan with a long wing extending to the rear right.

The main block is three storeys and has a two-window front. The lower, later range to the right is set slightly back, featuring one six/six-pane sash window to each floor, topped by a high coped parapet above a cornice. The main block has a low coped parapet, cornice, and a ground floor platband with banded rustication to the ground floor. The second floor has three/six-pane sash windows with moulded architraves, while the first floor has cornices on consoles over margin-paned French windows. Each first-floor window is complemented by a pierced stone balustraded balcony, mirroring the garden wall design; the right-hand balcony forms a porch, enclosed to the sides, with a guttae string to the frieze and a four-panel door. A six/six-pane sash window is located to the left.

The garden front is defined by an ashlar wall approximately one meter high, supported by panelled piers at the center and ends. The wall is enriched with caps inspired by the work of Soane, and features narrow semicircular arched pierced panels on a plinth. A wrought iron gate completes the garden boundary. The interior of the villa has not been inspected.
