Description

1 and 2 Kingsmead Terrace are two terrace houses built in 1792, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. They are constructed from limestone ashlar and feature a slate and double Roman tile roof.

The exterior of No.1 is a small single-bay house that stands two storeys tall, with an attic and basement. It has four-pane sash windows, including a dormer window. To the right, there is a six-panel door with a plain transom light, and a plain railing encloses a small paved area to the left. A mid platband features the incised inscription "KINGS-MEAD TERRACE." The roof is a slated mansard style, supported by an eaves parapet above a blocking course and a small cornice. The left side is plain, while the rear has a raking four-pane dormer above a small nine-pane sash window and a door with a transom light. No chimney stack is present.

No.2 has two bays and is three storeys tall, with an attic. The left wall is canted, featuring a panelled door below a plain wall. The main front has small four-pane dormers above four-pane sash windows at each level, paired with a plain stone mullion at the ground floor. To the right of the door, there is a small paved area with railings, and a platband above the ground floor. The building has a moulded cornice with a blocking course and parapet. The mansard roof has a coped gable to the right, with a deep chimney stack over a plain wall. The rear, made of rough squared stone, features staggered twelve-pane sashes under two dormers.

The interiors have not been inspected. These houses are the only remaining structures from a larger terrace that was destroyed by bombing in 1942.
